It was inevitable that the most active volcano in the Canary Islands would erupt, and scientists have been watching and speculating as to what might happen when it would do. At least one drama-documentary has been aired in the past as to the potential consequences of a super-tsunami that might result from a major drop-off into the ocean of the unstable side of this ridge volcano. So far nothing, but at worst the south of Ireland could be affected as could other areas of Europe, and the far side of the Atlantic.

La Palma is not often visited by Irish people or Brits, but it does provide a quiet destination for more discerning Spanish, German, British tourists etc. It’s a lovely place, largely unspoiled by the trappings of tourism, which I had the pleasure of visiting in the noughties.
