Pet friendly destinations in Europe

We are looking to bring our dog to somewhere in Europe during the Xmas/New Year period.

I don’t fancy the idea of taking a ferry and would prefer a short flight and then get a car rental.

Can anyone please suggest where would be good for a pet friendly trip (including but not limited to airlines, hotels and just the general friendliness towards furry friends).

South west England - Cornwall and Devon are very pet friendly. Dogs everywhere. Beaches, especially out of season are dog friendly. Lots of shops leave out bowls and treats for dogs. Everyone brings their dog with them everywhere.

UK (and Ireland as well) would be a better option for summer staycation rather than winter.. Plus Brexit makes it a lot more difficult to get all the papers for dogs.

True. But since you said Europe and Christmas/New Years and didn’t specify a sun destination…

After a night’s research, I think I have to ditch the idea of flying with my dog. It seems Ireland has the strictest requirement in the EU and dogs are not allowed to fly in cabin or as checked luggage for any airlines (ironically they do allow pets to fly from Ireland - just not the return trip).

That leaves my option to be either ferry to France, which is almost 20 hours, or a short ferry to the UK then drive via the tunnel to the continent.

UK rules https://www.gov.uk/bring-pet-to-great-britain/pet-passport IICR there's other rules again on rabies and timings of shots.

Get a cabin on the Ferry. 8 hours sleep, meal , shower and a few movies on your phone or table. Beware of roaming data while on a Ferry in international waters

Yeah I’m aware of the UK ferry route. Just didn’t want to do it as it just makes travel time significantly longer, but seems to be the only option (and we’ll probably end up somewhere in France if we want to avoid more driving..)
