    Hi,

my son seems to have developed an interest in taking photos via camera phones

I thought I might help him along the way and pick him up a decent stand alone camera.

Could someone recommend a good starter model, budget around 300.

    Thanks

These 3 would be worth getting, I have a Canon 600d myself and these lenses and still get great photos with them. On MPB.COM They'll set you back about 340e for the lot, thats a walking around lens, a decent zoom range lens and the body, add to that an SD card and a cheap camera bag you could get the Lowepro Flipside on there its €32 and an SD cards in Argos for very little.

Canon EOS 600D camera body, its got a flash, video mode and flippy screen for selfies/vlogging etc which is handy.

    Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 II lens

Oh and one other thing is a spare battery in time, you can never have enough batteries imo at least with the SD car you can buy a bigger gigabyte than he might use starting off but the batteries is the thing you'll want more of on a day out etc, i've been there and shooting in jpeg rather than raw will mean you wouldn't need too big of an SD card 64gb starting is plenty. Conns cameras sell extra batteries for when you might need one.
