I’ve a 2007 automatic Golf and looking for a gearbox specialist to service it. I’ve had conflicting information saying that there’s no serviceable parts / there are serviceable parts 🤔 so I’m looking for recommendations.

    Thanks.

If it's a DSG gearbox then afaik some versions are known as wet boxes and do require the transmission oil and filter replaced at set mileage intervals. Dalton's are VAG specialists based in Portlaoise and are highly regarded around here so worth giving them a call.

I read somewhere that if it's six speed it's a wetbox and if seven speed it's not

How true that is would need some further research, my seven speed dsg doesn't have a filter so apparently doesn't need oil changed.

I don’t think my gearbox is DSG. I don’t have paddles on the steering wheel.

If it's automatic it's DSG, paddles or not

The difference is some have wet clutch packs, whereas others are dry (like typical manual car gearboxes). All gearboxes are "wet" in some way.

I compared prices of dealer and specialists and in the end I went for dealer service. The price was about the same but price does vary by dealer.

The dealer was more convenient location wise.
