Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi I have a friend in a bad place at the moment and in risk of losing his family home. Does anyone recommend any good legal experts/solicitors/barristers that are specialist in repossession? Please pm me if you do. Friend is based in Waterford but he told me location would not be a problem.

Dare we ask… did your friend ever attempt to negotiate with his lender?

Or has he ignored all correspondence from the lender and now, with the proverbial wolf at the door, his last gasp attempt at a ‘solution’ is to ask a friend to solicit recommendations for legal representation from anonymous contributors to an internet forum?

OP, I'm not going to be Judgemental,

I had my own challenges , primarily brought on by health challenges and reduced income. I had built up arrears and my mortgage sold on to vulture Fund. My mortgage very small and arrears too. I addressed my challenges successfully but had to face up to the challenges and reached out to Mabs who were excellent.

I honestly don't believe seeking recommendations on legal representation on any Internet forum wise and whilst you've requested same via PM , I believe recommendations not permitted here.

I don't know how advanced the your friend's situation is but whilst absolutely no guarantees ever promised it is never to late.

Mabs is the First step in any process it free impartial advice, there's numerous options following on from an assessment including Abhaile and possibly a personal insolvency arrangement (PIA) and obviously depending on how serious, Bankruptcy.

A free consultation with a personal insolvency practitioner (PIP) is strongly advisable and Mabs through Abhaile can arrange this indeed I'm aware of an excellent one within distance of location you've mentioned on your friend's behalf.

In essence no matter how serious the situation is, its never to late to engage and there are options and free service's. But it requires people to accept their challenges and engage.

    Best wishes to your friend.

That's no problem, they just need to make that call to Mabs if they've not done so already. Your friend needs to understand looking for solicitor's, barristers for a situation already advanced (presumably) is not only horrendously expensive but may prove fruitless at this stage.

Of course there are scenarios we're there is no choice so my advice is based on the possibility your friend has not engaged with Mabs (just for example purposes). I speak from experience including examining the possibility of a PIA (which wasn't deemed necessary) at no personal cost to me. Even if a PIA was a solution, costs are built in, the Debtor deals solely with a nominated PIP and whilst a daunting prospect, PIA's are proving to be very successful even in what may appear impossible situations.

The Mabs and PIA advice is spot on. I am a solicitor and generally, that is what I will advise in most of these cases.
