sewer smell in back of house

I have an old house that has a lot of bespoke solutions from previous owner.

There's sewer smell out the back, comes and goes. Some days nothing, other days its fairly strong, most of the time it's barely detectable.

This house is at the end of the line for the sewer. Pipe runs from my house then through the back gardens of several on this row. Previous owner said the smell is the result of the neighbouring house having a bathroom installed, and the plumbers joined it to the sewer pipe in a T junction. Says this created backups and smell. Work was done to change the T more than once. But the issue basically remains.

I'm now looking for opinions about a solution. Sewer smell i read is hydrogen sulfide and it's heavier than air, so gravitates to low areas. The area immediately out the back door is a low area and I have a paver with a handle it in, and under that paver is the sewer, pictured. Now i don't know a thing about plumbing, bit this looks like ceramic pipe that's been cut into. So essentially do I have an open sewer pipe in my back garden/patio area? And is THIS the problem?

If that is the problem, how would this be fixed?

    Opinions and creative thinking welcome.
