musing upgrade options, Android phone

So, my current phone is the standard Huawei P20 which I've had for the best part of 2 years by now.

I've been very happy with it and it was my first Android phone having been through various iPhones and reluctant to go back to Apple now that I've seen the Android "light".

I'm with BillPay on Vodafone and paying about 40 Eu per month on contract.

I'm looking through the upgrade options ... I guess I paid a one off of <200Euro for the P20 as part of the package back 2 years ago.

What would be a good step up for me ? Maybe I should go SIM free.

If I stay with the Vodafone plan I am on it looks like they are pushing Samsung S20, S21 , etc.

I am using about 70GB out of the 128GB storage on the P20 so I think 128GB is a must for me.

The camera (was, at least) v good on the P20.

I am due an upgrade from my OnePlus 7Pro also and finding it very difficult. The price of handsets has skyrocketed.

I really can't find anything in my price range on my €40 contract. Samsung seem to be flooding the market with various handsets and anything mid to top end are very expensive.

    Thanks for that @nedd

That's really what I felt myself. There is the Samsung S21 which looks like Voda are asking 399Eu once off payment for on a 40Eu p/month 24 month contract.199 for the S20 5G. I haven't yet looked into the option of refurbed SIM free devices. Are batteries replaced in those devices ? I'd wonder about their lifetime being reduced on account of previous recharge cycles. You are right about the handset prices sky rocketing.

You should look into one of the budget service providers such as Gomo or 48. Postmobile also have a €15 per month option and they use the Vodafone network so quality should be the same as you have now. No need to be paying €40 a month.

Then you just buy a sim free phone, such as the Redmi Note 10 Pro which is great value for money.
