Water Softener query

Moved house a few weeks ago. Was previously in the city but am out in the Wexford countryside now with a well and water treatment system, and a back boiler. The previous owners left no info at all on the water treatment system.

There a softener/treatment thing in the garage seems pretty self explanatory, but i can't see a model number on it. It seems to regenerate every two days. Last night some small black specks appeared in the water from the kitchen tap. The salt level seems pretty low. Could that be causing the black specks?

Also, how often should we get the water treatment system checked?

And can anybody recommend a Wexford based company who could service this?

    Ta!

Clack or Autotrol are 2 common makes of softeners. Image search them and see if they look similar or upload a pic here so we can see what type you have.

I have a softener and it regenerates every 6 days. I get our serviced every 2-3 years, although the service company will tell you it should be every year. It costs about 100 euro. Its possible the previous owners may not have got the unit serviced in a good while.

As for service companies I'm sure google will help in your search. I'm in meath so can't help in that regard.
