Protecting potatoes from blight

Is it effective to cover over small patches of potatoes with plastic sheeting for short periods (1 or two days) ?

I anticipate a bit of blight weather in the coming days and don't want to see their growth cut short too soon

I would tuck the plastic sheeting quite snugly and remove it once the weather cleared up

Two more questions re the blight and general cultivation

    1) Is any purpose served at all by picking off infected leaves and stems?

Can it even buy any time for the tubers to increase in size rather than just cutting down the hauls st first observation of infection?

    2) With the right variety and some very good soil might it be possible to plant potatoes very close together and just aim for a crop of baby sized potatoes?
