Is there any way to find out if a person has been charged of a RTA?

Two years ago in a town near me, a young vulnerable road user was killed by a motorist driving carelessly.

I still haven't even heard whether she had appeared in court yet. The person who died was in his 40's and unmarried.

Is it possible to search court records in a user-friendly way to find out whether the driver was convicted (or even charged)?

Would it be a possibility that the parents of the man asked that she be let off scott free as they forgive her? Surely they can't as vehicular manslaughter is not a tort or a civil matter (rather a criminal one) and the DPP decide whether the driver is brought to court. it just seems strange that since early summer 2019 nothing has been heard and she is potentially still driving.

Dangerous driving causing death requires a jury and with the restrictions on the court services caused by Covid, that probably explains why the case has not come to trial. That's if the DPP has decided that the driver should be charged.

If this happened outside Dublin, it might be an idea to contact someone in your local newspaper to see if there have been any court appearances arising out of the incident. The driver could have been summonsed to the local District Court and there could have been several remands. If they have been summonsed, they will have to be served a book of evidence, following which the case will be sent up to the local Circuit Court. Where (assuming a not guilty plea) there will be a trial with a jury.

You can search circuit court and above diaries to see if you can spot her name, but district court lists need to be obtained from the district court
