Runaround bike wanted 56

Doing my bit for climate change, I'm going to make the kids take the bus to school and start walking / cycling to work myself (it's only a couple of km). So I could do with a cheap runaround if anyone has something suitable.

I'd prefer a road bike but no reason why a fixie or an mtb wouldn't do either I guess.

Kinda 200 to 400 quid sort of budget?

    Focus Mares on budget wheels?

I still have this bike available. When I work out value on a sum of the parts I get this ....

....which seems ridiculous when you can get something like this for around €400.

So I'm not sure what that says about bike prices/parts prices.

Thanks Paul, the Vitus wouldn't be for me. Those Boardman's are great bikes alright imo.

Thanks for the offer Paul but I wouldn't like to commit to buying something on a promise of a build.

That's the frame I use as my daily and I love it. Just transferred over the parts when the frame on my last daily broke at the seat tube.

No problem. Just shouting out what I have and what's for sale. Everything. Everything but the girl.

I don't have one, I was suggesting to fat_bloke that he repurpose his own Focus Mares for this commute, but turns out it's long gone!

Still think a basic cx would be the right call for this kind of use.

Absolutely. Worst time of the year for CX bargains though! Everyone wants one in September. There are a few basic Boardman ones around but with the cable disk brakes - are they as bad as they're made out to be?

Another Mares available here! Carbon frame - size L but small for a large! Good condition. Almost new cassette, chain and Durano Plus tyres. I’ll throw in various new and nearly new CX tyres too. Circa €325.

That's hardly the disc brake version? If it is I'd be delighted to take it at asking? Thanks, Paul

Edit - Sorry, my apologies! I meant to explicitly state that only if FB doesn't want it, of course!

Well, Jiminy Jillickers Batman, if you don't ask, you don't get. :) Picked up a cracker of a bike from C3PO. A Gent with an eye for bikes! Cheers man.
