Gate repaint

Metal gate needs repaint. It's about 5 years old, galvanized metal with paint applied by the gate manufacturer. We live in a "maritime" area, so the paints not held up, as the pictures show:

I'm looking for recommendations on how to proceed. Should I use a chemical stripper to remove the paint, a heat gun, or both? There are a lot of edges and 'nooks and crannies' that probably require both. Also, after the paint is stripped, is there a better paint, or paint+primer combo, that will last more than a few years in my area? Metal just doesn't hold up outdoors, though I don't see rust per se on the gate, the galvanizing seems to be holding up.

    Thanks.

We got our drive way entrance gates Sand blasted and powder coated. I have galvanised gates and we have primed and painted them a few times but the paint always flaked off. The paint just doesnt take well to the galvanised surface.

It cost about 600 euro for the 2 gates covering a 5m wide driveway and a small pedestrian gate. The guy had ithem done in about 3 days.

A year now since we got it done and very happy with the result.

Go into pat mc donnells or some other paint shop and get a 2 pack primer like Jotun Penguard which is specifically made for galv, and a 2 pack topcoat like jotun hardtop HB.

Make sure you give the existing paintwork a good sanding down first.

Thanks. We did sort-of this; stripped it pretty well with chemical stripper, sander, scraper, put on a coat of primer and a top coat. Unfortunately the weather now prevents any more work, should it need a repaint in a couple years will try the brands you recommend, we just got what the local hardware store sold.
