Characters - Today versus previous generations of celebrities

I've just watched a recap of Michael Parkinson's best bits.

The likes of Peter Ustinov, James Cagney, Jimmy Stewart and the Bing Cosby etc. By god they had presence and could entertain.

Very little of any current celebs could hold a candle to them. Is this because they are too coached or am I looking back with rose tinted glasses?

Who do you think would be a top notch interviewee (as opposed to reading someone's script) from today's celebs and could they be compared to the greats of yesteryear?

Peter Ustinov used to appear on the Late Late Show quite a lot in the 80s. A great raconteur and larger than life character.

There's not many left because anyone with a bit of character is usually cancelled for being too offensive, it's a shame. Ricky Gervais is about the closest we have nowadays.

Ya Gervais is good really pushes the boat out, golden globes lol

There's so much caution these days and conformity.
