Nordmende Hob getting hot where it shouldn't

Mother got a new kitchen last week and has noticed an issue with the hob. It's a Nordemende hct62fl. The hob works fine but areas outside of the hot zones are also getting very hot. Dangerously so. The area with the touch controls is quite hot after a few mins of cooking. Under the hob is very warm too. There's a pull out drawer under it and if you put your hand inside you can feel heat radiating from the underside of the hob.

Kitchen and appliances came from Cash and Carry and the wiring up was done by a local electrician.

Could this be caused by the wiring or is it an appliance issue?

Most likely an appliance issue. They normally have reflective plates to keep the heat in the right zones, but this can be quite subjective as a ceramic hob is a hot-cooking surface and you would have to accept some leakage of heat from other locations. If the surface temperature in a touch area is more than 60 degrees C (I think), then that could be cause for concern. For a non-touch area (such as the underside) it's different, but it should be no more than 80 C, I'd guess. Check the install manual and see what it says about installation and protection of surrounding areas (free space areas).

I think we have found what is causing the issue. It occurred when using a large flat base frying pan on one of the front rings. The base of the pan was larger than the ring so was transferring heat outside of cooking zone. The issue doesn't occur with appropriately sized cookware.

Right, makes sense. Glad you got it!
