Hi I'm posting this here as opposed to the DIY forum as this might be a bit more focused. I have an inner front door with a handle that's been giving trouble on and off for years. The problem is that there's no wood left for the screws to attach to and the handles just don't stay attached, they eventually become loose and come off.

Is there anything that can be done with this? Would it be possible to somehow cut out and replace the existing wood that the screws attach to (that's now mangled) and somehow fit a new piece of wood? Or maybe some kind of wood filler? All ideas greatly appreciated as this is wrecking me nut now 😐️

Get something like a Carlisle Brass Madrid handle, with a 225 mm back plate, that will get you into new wood, to make it a proper job get the Bolt through fixings for it also

Yes, the wood can be cut out and replaced, but you would need to re-mortice the door afterwards. A bit of a job.

Another option would be to remove the weak sections then fill it with two-part epoxy, then pre-drill the screw-holes and refit. I'd try the epoxy route first.

The easiest way is get 4 thin bolts and push right through and cut the little bit of at end.

It doesn't look like new door so i think be ok...

I think its already been suggested to use the handle types that you would see on pvc doors. One handle has a bolt through to the other handle and screws into the handle, and not the door.
