Water Quality - filter to remove sediment particles from mains supply into house

Is there a filtration system that can be attached to the incoming water supply that doesn't cost the earth but will remove any sediment particles before entering the house and where I can easily clean the filter myself periodically? I am at an early stage in research but any help would be welcomed and may be of interest to others.

The quality of water into my house continues to be bad despite Irish Water having said they flushed the system and that it should be ok. The problem has been reported again and another case opened. There are sediment particles floating in the water and there was a yellowish discolouring at times. It is not safe to drink and questionable for other uses and certainly a concern around young children, one with sensitive skin. I have had a plumber look at it who has established it is not metallic and can also be found in our neighbours water. It is clogging filters in the dishwasher, shower, etc which I have had to have cleaned. A layer of sediment has built up in the attic water tank (about 6 years old). The plumber tells me it is likely there is now sediment in pipes within the house and may have got into the hot water (immersion) tank with the potential to attach to and burn out the heating elements.

In my own house I have a 2 stage particle filter on the mains in Laois. The filters start brilliant white and After 2 months it’s dark brown. that’s what we’ll be paying for!

im a plumber so I put the filters in just as an experiment.

After those filters I’ve installed a reverse osmosis unit that takes everything out of the water. This water is stored snd pumped to everything in the house except toilets.
