Hello, we are considering building a (brick) 25m² Garden room in our garden. Basic finish. Electric from the house. No plumbing.

    Has anyone had this done?

What would the expected cost be?

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

Considering a similar project, did you go ahead in the end? If so what was the ball park cost?

Does anyone else on the forum have any insight to the rough cost of building a garden Room with blocks from scratch, to include groundworks, foundations/base, that would be well insulated including floor, walls and roof and have electricity?

Also interested in something similar, following thread

Just to follow up on this. I have been researching garden rooms over the 12 months or so and there are numerous companies offering different levels of quality garden rooms. These all appear to be wooden structures with differing levels of insulation and finishes. I have been in contact with a number of these outfits and have received a quote in excess of 40k for a 25m2 room in a turn key condition with insulation in floor, walls and roof and electrical connection completed.

I could be way off, but in my mind a block built structure would be more likely to last the test of time and require less maintenance.

What I am trying to ascertain is would this be worth it or would a similar block built room with good insulation and and electrical connection completed, be doable for less or similar money?

We did this about 2 years ago. Looked at steeltech and wooden options but went with block in the end. Ended up just over 41k for 30msq. Price included toilet, wired internet and associated groundworks as well as a turnkey finish.

Went with block as wanted a place that would last as long as the house itself will be standing ....and match/blend in with surroundings in a way that steel/wooden options would not.

If you see yourself using the place all year round and want something long lasting, nice and comfortable (adequate glazing, good insulation etc) I think block works best.

    Thanks for that stove,

That's basically what I would be thinking too that the block built will overall be of a better quality. I have been considering this for the last 12 months and had made contact with a number of builders looking quotes last year but none ever got back to me. I would imagine there is not a builder who would be interested in completing a project of this size at the moment as they are too busy with the bigger projects. As you say your project was 2 years ago, I'd love to get a clear idea of what would a project like this cost roughly currently with the cost of materials increasing as they are, so if I can get a builder to quote, I'll know if it's a reasonable quote or not.

If I could get a block built structure built to a similar spec to what I have been quoted for the timber structure for a similar price, it would make sense to go for the block built.

Did you get everything completed by the same company or did you get individual tradesmen to complete the different works?
