Apartment block query insurance

    Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me out.

Me and my partner are thinking of buying an apartment in Cork. The apartment was built sometime in the 80/90s and is located on the first floor of a three storey complex. It has an open fire (with the chimney stack on the flat roof above) as do all the rest of the apartments within the block.

My query is can the management company insist that I have the open fire flue cleaned annually for the buildings insurance company.

To be honest I don't think we will ever use the open fire if we do decide to buy the apartment.

    Hopefully someone can advise me.

    Thanks

They probably can. In buying the property, you are agreeing to their rules.

Realistically, close it off permanently and convince them that it is closed off.

It's possibly something that is covered in the lease covenant. Ask your solicitor to check it before closing the sale if it's something that has you concerned.
