USB wifi adapter for Chromebook

The wireless card on my 4 year old 11.6 in Acer Chromebook seems to have packed up. I tried various fixes I found on the Internet including a hard restart 'powerwash' but nothing worked. I got a USB ethernet adapter and it works fine when plugged directly into the router but not otherwise. I could not find a USB wireless adapter for a Chromebook . They all seem to be Windows or Mac. Does anybody now if t it is possible to get a wireless adapter for a chromebook or of any other solution?
