I've fallen down the espresso rabbit hole big time.

    My short list:

Lelit Anna (love the style, has nice reviews)

Gaggia Classic Pro (seems to the Go to for the price range)

Silvia (most powerful but no PID is an issue for this one not so much for the others)

    Im not bothered about modding.

Also looking at Lelit Anita, has PID and built-in grinder for €700. Pro for me here is more tidy counter

Have you allowed for a grinder in the budget? It will be €200-€300 minimum. I have a Rancilio Silvia which I paired with a Eureka Mignon grinder. It’s a solid set up and the coffee is fantastic, but I did take the plunge with the PID upgrade.

If you not going to extremes then Lelit Anita seems to be pretty solid choice.
