Sole trader employing casual staff - tax obligations

    Hi all,

    I'm thinking of taking the plunge of becoming a sole trader. I'm currently employed by a company part time, earning approximating 17,000 pet annum. The business I am thinking of starting would be in addition to this (although it is a different line of work than my current employment)

    I am hoping to set up a staffing agency (on a small scale) .... I have years of experience in it and have contacts made so it would be a case of me running various events and staffing them as necessary. As I said it wouldn't be on a huge scale and would most likely be seasonal, so turning over profits of 20,000 at most! (And that would be on a good year!)

    I've looked into it and think I have a good idea of my own obligations in relation to paying tax but am unsure when it comes to employees. Most of the people I would be employee would be on a very casual basis, e.g. they might be working an event this weekend and then not working for me again for another few weeks. They would probably earn in or around €130 per day worked. As this is very casual and sporadic work can anyone advise me on how I go about paying PRSI for them or what my obligations are?
