UPS Charges query

    Apologies if this is not the correct forum to ask this question ..............

    I ordered a music box set from the UK that cost me £99 + postage

    A UPS delivery driver called to my door last week with the package and a demand for €59 in charges.

    This seemed excessive to me so I emailed UPS to request a breakdown and was told the following

    The charge was comprised of the following

    VAT €175.48@23%= €40.36

    UPS Disbursement Fee= €15

    VAT on UPS Disbursement Fee= €3.45

    Total= €58.81

    My query is, should I be paying tax @ 23% on the freight as well as the item cost? - The €175, I was told, was the £99 + freight costs of the goods + freight combined.

    VAT is payable on full cost, including postage/freight

    Expensive freight as UPS have a land/sea option to/from the UK that would be about £10-£12 delivery. Ideally the seller should have sold to you ex UK vat too, so that the overall cost would not be that much different

    Not sure where you live but UPS have collection points in NI that you can get items delivered too.
