Transfer from a Technical grade to AP grade in Civil Service

Hi There, I am currently an Accountant Grade 1 in the CS and an opportunity has come up in a Finance role in another CS area but the Grade is an AP not Professional Accountant. The Location is one of the main reasons I am considering this but I am concerned that switching grades might have an adverse impact that I am not seeing. I see a difference in pay and the fact the Unions would change. Just wondering is there anything else I should watch out for?

Can't conceive of any specific drawbacks other than the obvious scale difference between AP and Professional Accountant Grade 1 with AP slightly lower than Professional Accountant.

One significant advantage would be access to much wider mobility moves as an AP and potentially a clearer path to promotion as an PO- though I am aware of a colleague who achieved promotion to PO from Accountant Grade 1- albeit to a Finance related PO role.

Probably depends on whether you see yourself moving out of Finance at some point.

Always worth exploring should you be offered the role whether the new HR would consider letting you keep your current grade- I know of a Department with a mix of APs and Professional Accountants, with professionally qualified accountants working in the same team on both grades.

Also important to ensure you have a pathway with your current employer to revert should it not work out for you!
