Travel Insurance during 2020 - Did anyone get a refund?

Considering we couldn't use it at all - I noticed myself that I couldn't get through to AA via the telephone at the time and when I emailed they simply told me that don't do refunds despite the fact that we couldn't use the policy at all given that all non essential travel was excluded from cover.

Did anyone get a refund or did they just accept it?

Thanks all. I hope this is the right forum.

    Them's the rules

Had you an essential reason to travel you'd have been covered.

Our travel insurance automatically renewed in March 2020 and I couldn't figure out if we were covered for cancellation if the holiday we had booked, but rescheduled (due to covid), was cancelled. I went round in circles trying to get a response from the AA - I tried email, webchat, phone, website but the responses were automated and the information wasn't specific enough. In the end I wrote to (I think) the underwriter and got a response to say we WERE covered. In the end it made no difference as the excess on our policy was so high that we wouldn't have got any money back had we tried to claim. I was actually never more grateful to Ryanair and the EU rule that provides for flight refunds. Given that we had been covered, I accepted that we wouldn't get a refund for our travel insurance although it felt like €90 down the drain.

Car and other insurance providers gave refunds or part refunds for 2020 so I don't see why travel insurance providers shouldn't have too.

I have an annual policy with VHI Travel. Got an email last week saying my travel insurance has been extended for 6 months free of charge.
