So a motorist gets out of car and hits a cyclist after a verbal exchange can the insurance of motorist be sued?

Motor insurance covers for injury caused by the negligent use of the vehicle, not the negligent use of fists.

Shame when you know the person has no money. Thanks.

It would still be beneficial for them to get a criminal record which would then cause problems with them getting car insurance in the future as there's a question asked about any convictions whether motoring or otherwise when getting a quote.

Motor insurance doesn't normally cover public liability.

Home insurance usually does include public liability, so if he is a home owner, he may well be insured.

But to be honest, the costs of taking a court case are substantial, so unless he caused very significant damage to person or property, it probably isn't worth it.

Have you reported it to Gardai?

Yes he is getting charged. Don't want to give to many details but I was just wondering about the car side of it.

i suspect the only thing you can do here is that if he is convicted of a criminal offence, that you could make sure his insurance company knows.

it's not something actionable in terms of them being liable, but he does need to disclose criminal convictions when renewing, IIRC.
