just drop into the local office and ask them to change your method of payment from post office to your bank account. no reason to tell them why. when you get sorted in the job abroad. go online and sign off through MyGov.ie.

There's be a lot of discussion on this particular subject, relating to JSA/JSB being paid into bank account. The Departments stance from what I can see is "It May" and this is very ambigious.

In an ideal world it would make sense but the department seem to determine this on a case by case basis, I presume to minimise fraud etc.

New applications tend not to be approved for direct payment into bank unless its specific benefits but if for example a person has a history, is compliant, verifyable address, Identity etc I've seen cases were they will consider and approve.

Your case somewhat tricky as any request would take time, which you may not have, also, I'm assuming the Department is aware you may be signing off, so it's unlikely they'll approve this option for you.

As a possible solution, you can nominate someone to collect your payment but even that takes time and is only permitted in certain circumstances and for certain payments.

Given the limited time, all I can think of is requesting from your Local Intero Centre if they could perhaps issue a cheque for final payment but again, not sure if that is even possible. I'm not sure of current rules around time you have to collect payment, maybe it might be enough for a possible visit home?

Delighted you've a new Job and sorry I can't offer better advice on this.

thanks for your helps, spent nearly two hours calling around and never got a clear answer so i think im just going to have to forego my final payment unfortunately.

strange that you're apparently allowed two weeks holidays under jobseekers but they cant make an allowance for something like this where its my final week and i cannot physically collect.

they themselves told me to do that...then later told me no we dont do that anymore. youd think itd be one of the more commonly asked quesitions giving the covid situation and that theyd have a standard answer. oh well. thanks for your help

They do not just change methods of payments on request, there's a process and review and they don't always approve.

A few months ago post offices were accepting temporary agent forms for all social welfare payments due to people self isolating etc. This was a one off arrangement due to COVID. Maybe check with your post office if they will still be doing this. It’s a form you put your pps no. on and sign. The person collecting will also need to produce your psc.

Just be aware that this arrangement may already have ended due to vaccinations now being available to everyone so check with the post office if this is still available first.

This is the form, I’d sign a couple of them before you go just to be sure you get all your payments.

Hi there, I wondered about this option as a possibility, just wasn't sure if it was still in operation but worth a try 😉

I was actually working in a post office until the end of April on a COVID relief contract. It was valid at the time I finished up. It definitely applies to all payments including jobseekers payments.
