My wife went to her dentist last Thursday with a problem with her tooth. He examined it and dentist said she needs root canal and she has to go back for this soon. When she was there she mentioned that there was a problem with a different tooth which had root canal in the past. He said it needed a filling, which she agreed to. My wife was eating her dinner yesterday and in the middle of it she discovered the said tooth was after falling out and she swallowed it. She called the dentist and is going back to see them tomorrow. What should she expect? is the dentist at fault here?

What should she expect? To be told the filling/tooth has fractured, not that the tooth has fallen out.

Is the dentist at fault? If the tooth had previously been root canaled and had a cavity, there was probably very little dentine left. A dentist can’t make a weak tooth stronger, all he/she can do is remove decay and fill it. It will either be a crown or extraction now in all probability.
