    Hi all

ive read all the previous threads on domestic cctv but can’t seem to find the following answer to this query. would be grateful for your help

want to put up cctv as a deterrent to our awful awful neighbour. I have no intention to record their side. I understand that the if the camera only covers our property (front and back) then GDPR does not apply.

do you need to ‘prove it’? If the neighbour makes reference to GDPR, so I just say - it doesn’t point on your side so I’m exempt.

    is that sufficient?

    hopefully this query makes sense

    thanks

If the neighbour has an issue, let them make a complaint. If they mouth off, tell them to eff off. But more seriously, tell them that you had it checked with the local Garda station and they gave it approval.

Better still, get a spare camera that is not connected and point it directly to their property - back and front. 😃

Thanks Darc. I’m having an awful time. It’s pure harassment. Awaiting a response from our solicitor.

I really don’t want to have to put in a camera - the cost, the effort, the notion of it - but we can’t continue to put up the harassment; and we feel that a camera may help reduce the harassment.

While I’d love to point it straight at our neighbour, I wouldn’t want to antagonise them.

When you say ‘complaint’ do you mean she might complain to the guards or to the Data Protection Commissioner.

They'd have to complain to data protection office. Might be looked at months later.

But once it is not showing their property there is absolutely nothing for you to worry about.

Might be worth a professional installation - not that expensive considering the benefits. And you can check in on your phone whenever you like and have a watch.

    Thank you.

I presume that the DPC can’t enter your house to check if I) the camera is turned on ii) it’s pointing into the neighbour and iii) you’re recording.

However - point taken. Thank you.
