Hi folks, just doing some research on the Phoenix Park. I'm curious about the following:

Were the lands that the Farmleigh Woods estate in Castleknock sit ever part of the Farmleigh estate itself?

What was at the site where the CCJ is before it was built?

Was the hill that the cross sits upon always there or was it created artificially for the purpose of erecting the cross?

    Thanks.

Old maps show that the land that Farmleigh Woods is built on was right beside another estate house Mount Hybla so more than likely it was part of that estate rather than Farmleigh. Mount Hybla house is still there as part of the nursing home.

The Courts site was used as the siezed vehicle pound for a number of years.

The Papal Cross is on the site of the altar for the mass in 1979 and the mound was created artificially.
