Decisions around oil condensing combi or look to mains gas?

Hiya, would value anyone's opinion on heating. Live in a 2750sq ft house built in 1999. Rated BER C3, although have subsequently added additional loft insulation.

The house is heated via an oil fired range (Stanley Alpha) which has a seperate heating/water burner to the cooker burner. This is at best 80% efficient, likely high 70's. Annual oil bill makes the eyes water... Prob 2k+ a year (at least 3 €700 fills). Looking to keep the range as a cooker only and install a new efficient combi boiler (hate heating water daily whether used or not).

House doesn't have mains gas, but the network is only 50m away so connection may be possible (have a quote from them coming)

What would you do in a similar scenario?

Erring towards an external Grant oil condensing combi, but would mains gas boiler be a better bet in long run?

Really want a combi and budget/house insulation prob doesn't stretch to a heat pump, so think these are my only options? Researched pellets boilers but the jury seems to be very divided!

Apols, this has turned into a long question, but really welcome thoughts!

    a) oil condensing combi

    b) gas condensing combi (with a possible hookup fees)

    c) something greener?

    d) wouldn't bother, nothing will pay back the outlay (assume 20yrs!)

    Cheers!

Have you got a recent BER assessment with suggested actions?

It would be worth your while getting somebody to run the sums for you on a few alternatives, e. G.

    Heat pump

    Gas boiler

    External insulation or improved windows

    Solar hot water

Modern building standards have moved on a lot. In a well insulated house you wouldn't even think of burning solid fuel in a stove as you'd bake.

Good shout re: BER. I don't have the full access to the assessment, but have looked the BER cert up online. There's not a hue amount of info, but the ratings of Main Space Heating Efficiency and Main Water Heating Efficiency are both rated at 75%, which presumably isn't great.
