Aer Lingus seat selection

Does anyone know whats the story now with Aer Lingus seat selection?

If you dont pay the advance seat choice fee, can you choose seats yourself the day before travelling like it was up to pre-pandemic days, or are you allocated seats automatically on check-in (and if its automatic is it Ryanair style random all over the plane, which with young kids would not be optimal to put it mildly)

The word from Aer Lingus is "Seat fees apply until 30 hours before your scheduled departure time" but they dont say how they are then allocated.

I flew with Aer Lingus on Saturday and could choose our seats when checking in online the previous day, so you should be fine.

Depends on what the load is - if it's a very busy route for example. If it's essential you sit with your kids, pay for seat selection.

I wouldnt say its essential to be beside the kids as they are no longer toddlers, but at least being within a row of them would be a start, and at least with manual selection the day before you can achieve that.

So long as it isnt the proactive distribution to opposite ends of the plane like you have with Ryanair!
