Paint for Kitchen Backsplash

    Hi Everyone,

Looking for some advice here. I'm currently in the process of renovating my kitchen. I have purchased a kitchen from B&Q, and am going to paint the room prior to it being installed.

I am not going to include any tiles for the backsplash, and am just going to have bare walls and paint. I'm looking for recommendations for a paint that is easily washable/wipeable, and will not run or come off.

The salesperson at B&Q has recommended to use Valspar v500, and a salesperson at PaintRite has suggested to use ColourTrend. Any other suggestions? Or would I be better to go with the Valspar or ColourTrend?

In place of a spalsh back, I just overpainted the white wall paint with clear acrylic based varnish. It seems to have stood up fairly well as an experiment, this being a section 20 years later:

The pink tinge is the sun reflecting off something.

Thanks for the idea. So you just used regular emulsion paint and then painted over that with clear acrylic?

Yes. It's shiny from certain angles, perhaps a bit less than gloss paint, so you might want to experiment on a small patch and see what you think first. I did it in the bathroom as well behind the sink.

We have Tikkurila Optiva 5 in their basic white behind ours for last year and no issues. It gets wiped daily.
