Sad news. I was a big fan of his back the day. He was lined up to play in the World Seniors Championship too.

    RIP

The right man at the wrong time!

His decade at the top was sandwiched between the 2 Golden Eras as the game's profile declined in popularity.

He had a great run though. 6 quarter finals from 1995-2004 in a very strong field. Even the earlier round defeats were against quite a few who made the final. His Lakeside win was a great story as he looked like something of a nearly man. Beat Barney and KIng which is no mean feat.

The aftermath probably led to his downfall. The PDC surged ahead not long after and that was it really. Might get forgotten about with the PDC professional era but he was a match for anyone on his day.

Still a great character and a big draw to the lakeside.

    RIP

One of the main characters of my early memories of darts. A very worthy world champion.

Andy Fordham, the former darts world champion and iconic figure in the sport, has sadly passed away at the age of just 59.

The Viking was one of the most recognisable figures in darts, with his career peaking when he won the 2004 BDO World Championship at the iconic Lakeside venue.

Fordham also claimed the BDO’s World Masters in 1999 and reached the World Championship semi-finals on four other occasions.

The former world champion has suffered numerous health problems notably back, groin and liver conditions, while he had to have an operation on his bowel last year to drain 16 litres of fluid from his body. He also suffered coronavirus earlier this year.

    RIP

Loved watching Andy, seemed like a decent bloke and a great character.

His weight loss yo-yoing probably didn’t help him, late 50’s is no age!!

    RIP

Saw him on TV about a year or two ago. Didn't recognize him with the massive weight-loss.

A legend of the game Andy Fordham.

    RIP 'Viking'
