Seal Matrix

Hi all ,

Does any know where I could find an expert on seal matrices. We have an old seal matrix ( for closing letters in wax ) that was found on the shore of a lake close to a crannog. The imprint is that of a deer. I was wondering if it could could be a standard matrix used in Ireland .......or something specific to the nobles living on the crannog or even something from abroad.

Your should contact the National Museum. You are obliged by law to report the discovery of archaeological objects to the museum

Thank you for your extremely helpful comment. The National Museum have our the seal matrix in storage but they have no experts on matrices and they have no knowledge or information about what the markings or the imprint of a deer mean.
