Do you have to bring & show your VLC on the day of a test?

The NCT website (Point 8) says you do, but the tester says they don't need it, only your ID & key is needed.

    What are other peoples experience?

You're better off bringing it with you. Sometimes I've been asked and other times not. Seems to be the experiences of others as well.

Depends on the tester, I have seen people fail without it and always get asked myself but others don't seem bothered by it

Better to be looking at it than for it. They can fail you for not presenting it, so to save a return journey bring it. I've always been asked so I just hand it into them with my license at this stage.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Confirmed with the NCT - It is required to be presented. But it's actually down to the indiviual tester whether they bother to look at & check it against their system or not.

Generally only needed if there's some difference in what is expected for the particular car, for example only 2 seatbelts in the rear but tester expecting 3, VLC will confirm how many seats car has and so how many belts should be present.
