    Hi all,
My daughter-in-law has a international and full Malaysian licence, she is starting a new job at the end of August, but public transport is not very viable, so she has to buy a car, and here is the problem, car insurance, she has rang a few and they have said no, Yes she could apply for an learner's permit do the 12 lesson, and theory test which i think has a waiting list, but she can't drive on a provisional licence, and the test waiting list is at least a nine month waiting list, what i am asking is there any companies who would insure for the 12 months and in the mean time she can be applying for her Irish licence
    Thanks

Short answer is no. They won't touch her without an Irish Driving licence

She should be able to apply for Reduced EDT Programme (six rather than twelve EDT lessons) and exemption from the six month wait time before she can apply for a driving test. https://www.ndls.ie/images/Documents/Flyers/166425%20RSA%20Foreign%20Licence%20(EDT)_WEB.PDF

If she does the six EDT lessons as quickly as they can be booked and goes on a cancellation list for the driving test she could have a full Irish driving licence much sooner than twelve months.
