That's a banger of a card. I'll definitely be in it for the whole hog.

I was only wondering recently where Hall had been.

    McGregor KO

I'm more excited by Ryan Hall's bout.

If you get the PPV on Sky do you get the prelims or only the main card? I have Fight pass for the early prelims but I don't have a BT sport subscription.

Conor, Dustin, Burns, Wonderboy, Ryan Hall, Tai Tuivasa, Carlos Condit

Best card this year. Probably best card since Covid.

Best Conor card in a long time. Usually they seem to just lean on his star power for the whole card.
I think Condit is the top prelim right, so a good 3 hours of top range fights for sure. lovely.

    Great card is right!

Think Dustin gets another TKO here.

Also hoping Niko Price gets a good hold of that eejit Pereira in the Prelims.

Gilbert's missus's reaction to him swinging a golf club is the funniest thing I've seen in a while :)

Dustin looks a lot leaner this time around.

Dang that is a good card. I've not been following as I tend to lose interest as soon as yer man is mentioned.
I assume it's a PPV which is a shame as I might have watched this on Sunday morning.

Probably Connors last ufc fight, he's pretty much done on the sport, wouldn't surprise me if he fights one of the Logan Pauls next

Unlikely, he would just go to another promotion but the UFC wouldn't let him go if he lost, he is a cash pinata.

Agreed , maybe he would be content to fight Diaz, or even Masvidal if he loses?

Yeah lads at the end of their careers, but plenty of money to be made.

Glad to see Dustin get the win in this one. I hadn't watched much of the buildup, but Conor came across like a really sore loser in the post fight interview. Nothing remotely likeable about him at all.

Delighted Poirier won, pity the injury ended the fight so soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,493 ✭✭✭El Gato De Negocios

Awful to see such a horrific injury happen to any fighter but there is a certain karmic feel about it happening to someone as deeply unlikeable as McGregor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,029 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

It reminded me of monty python the way he was sitting on the ground with 1 foot telling Dustin he was gonna kill him. I get he must have been in shock but man, how he's fallen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,760 ✭✭✭Effects

Yeah, lying in a heap on the ground, after losing a fight, and the best thing he can come up with is calling Dustin's wife a hoe. The man is a joke at this stage.

    Terrible way to go out,

Mic should never have been put in front of him in that state, he made a fool of himself in what could be his last time in the Octagon

Also as much of a horrible man he is , he is one tough f*cker to sit there like that after what happened to him ,

Time to retire & live a nice easy life ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭BattleCorp

I don't think he can live a nice easy life. Not only is he trouble, he attracts trouble too.

It shows what kind of an organisation the UFC is that they would even consider allowing an interview with a man lying on the floor after his ankle had just shattered. In any other sport he would have been stretchered off and been given immediate medical attention, not least for shock

Really enjoyed the card from start to finish.

    Some absolutely cracking fights.

Well, first to say with regards Conor v Dustin is that Conor actually managed to somehow reach spectacular levels of new lows with his behavior in the cage at the end of R1, not to mention doubling down on Twitter the following day. Utterly dispicable even if it is actually calculated promotion.

Fight itself - went about as expected. Conor was getting pressured and swarmed again, in fact he did better in the first fight. Obviously he always has a punchers chance fighting Dustin but before the break it was looking very much Dustin's fight again.

He just doesn't seem to have an answer to Dustin, someone who's also a great boxer but has a way better skillset, is tougher, and just has better cardio by miles. This have similar stance and this time around Dustin absolutely got the best off in the stand-up, that was a really strong combination that forced Conor into the clinch.

I didn't like Conor's movement though which seems to just allow Dustin to land easily. Slow and awkward responses/deer in headlight sort of reaction to Dustin's pressure. I mean realistically Dustin doesn't have mega one-shot KO power, it's usually accumulated damage and barrages that eventually put his opponents down.

Gaethje went down after a 4 round war, Dan Hooker survived all 5. But Conor got sparked in R2 the first rematch, and looked well on course to getting KO'd again in the second rematch just gone. I could be totally wrong but he seems way too willing to just stand and trade and hope for a hail mary shot, completely unlike his older self even if his accuracy and striking is actually still good in isolation.

Also don't agree it was 10-8, I assume two judges saw it that way because they thought Dustin knocked him down and delivered GnP rather than it being Conor breaking his leg. Before that happened, it was most definitely a 10-9. Porier soundly beat him but Conor had some OK shots as well and was active enough with good accuracy.

I don't think it means Conor is done like people are saying, there's not really any shame in losing twice to #1 in the world. What he needs to realise is that he can remain the UFC's biggest star indefinitely without needing to be the best, or only fighting the very highest level of opposition.

He should build himself back up and fight actually winnable fights. Diaz 3, fight Tony, whatever. He still has loads of fights left if he actually wants them but please god not McGregor v Porier 4. Never say never but at the very, very least let Conor earn it first, even if it is a facade.

    Poirers coach has his say.

    Impressive.

"Super proud of this man and all that he has accomplished. I don’t believe over the past 4 years anyone has had a tougher schedule or has had a more impressive resume than Dustin Poirier] . His incredible run includes wins over Conor Mcgregor (2x), Dan Hooker, Max Holloway, Eddie Alverez , Justin Gaethje, Anthony Pettis, and Jim Miller. His only loss during this time period was to the now retired Khabib Numagomedov. Saturday night was another glimpse of what Dustin is capable of. This was another one-sided dominant performance over a former world champion. For those people who believe that if Mcgregor’s leg wasn’t broken, he would have had a chance to make some sort of comeback, you are mistaken and this is far off from what history tells us. The chances of Conor rallying a comeback after losing a dominant (10-8) 1st round are slim. Conor has never been the guy known for his conditioning, in fact he is known as a guy who has a tendency to fade late, as he did in both Diaz fights and the Mayweather fight. If you look at Dustin’s past fights you will realize he is the guy who truly gets stronger as the fight grows and a guy who uses his heart to thrive in bloody wars. Broken leg or not, halfway through the first round it was clear who was going to get their hand raised,".

I had similar injury happen to me twice....and honestly when it happens it's not that painful. The leg goes completely numb because of the adrenaline. The pain doesn't start till the next morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,062 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Was off for a bit with the site shutdown.

    What a bad way to finish the trilogy. A few thoughts;

The leg kicks were bothering Dustin. Was good to see Conor throwing them again, rather than being a stuck in the mud boxer.

Conor still didn't have enough backpedal. This allowed Dustin to land a shot. Conor clinched to recover.

The guillotine was there, but he should have went for a power guillotine and/or standing finish. The cage blocked his attempt.

Conor was landing heavy shots from the bottom, his guard was ok. But Dustin was landing more with weight. (haven't checked the total strikes).

Zero chance Dustin felt it break. And I really doubt it was the time he pointed at it. Most likely went from the kick immediately before the break. We were 1 strike and 10 seconds from the rest of the fight.

The momentum was clearly with Dustin. But we'll never know.

Conor behaved like a prick after the fight. Not excusing it. But the mic should have been nowhere near him. After an injury like that it's understandable to be emotional and in shock.

There's a story he had stress fractures in camp. If that's the case, Kavanagh and his team, and the UFC have a lot of answer for. I can't see any scenario where that aren't incompetent and money grabbing.

Honestly though, would it surprise you? Dana and the UFC have always been scumbags, always willing to bend the rules when it comes to their biggest stars. They pretty much self regulate and can do whatever they want.

Agree that mic should have been nowhere near him (another example of the UFC being utter scum) but I don't think adrenaline causes you to shite on about your opponent's wife being a hoe, variants of which he threw out in the lead up to the fight anyway. He got on like an absolute rat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,498 ✭✭✭Still Ill

Also, off the main mic, but still recorded, he threatened to kill Dustin and his wife in their sleep. He's just a terrible person... And that's me putting it as politely as possible!
