I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer here lying up. Its a 1.6 Petrol in need of a drive and HT lead. Its not in the way and declared off the road but I'm thinking there's no point holding it. I cant see it ever being a desirable model as I think its the worst shaped lancer ever produced. What other recent C.2002 cars do ye think are on the list for being undesirable as collectors/enthusiasts cars in 20+ years?

The flip side of that is that it will be rare when the time comes.

Buy your repair parts now while you can easily get them.

If you look down the years at what becomes collectable, in the majority of cases they're either sought after cars when new, or basic cars that remind people of their childhood sat in the back of. Major bonus if the basic form came in a top of the range bells and whistles model. I could be wrong but a 1.6 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer wouldn't fall into either category.

Then you have the sentimental attachment. That can be any car pretty much and if the Lancer is that then Colm's advice is good.

I'd add buy up body panels, lights and interior trim when they're available and cheap as chips. For the majority of cars basic repair and service parts for the oily bits are generally easy enough to source even many decades on, but the trim stuff not nearly so much.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I never thought I'd see the day that my old Mk1 Fiesta would be deemed a classic. Still running perfectly when I gave it away.

So I'm still hanging on to my 00 Mk4 (facelift). The only other good-looking one in the car's history, in my opinion, until the Mk7.

I'm basing my little car collection off cars circa 20 years old that are pretty much unwanted now. Top priority is to sort each one as I get it while parts are easily and cheaply sourced.

    Currently have:

2002 Volvo C70 (Currently getting tlc and aimed for NCT in August)
2001 Megane Convertible, winter project and being used daily, nctd
1997 Merc C180, needs bodywork but otherwise great condition, nctd
1993 Renault 19 RSi, fully restored, nctd and in storage.

Nice collection. What shape 19 is it the 3 door, 5 door or saloon?
Add a MK1 Laguna to that and you would be right. There was one for sale recently in one of the bangerromics threads I think it was the for less the 500 euro thread.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

It's a saloon. I had a Mk1 Laguna but sold it to fund the 19 restoration. Very comfortable car
