Toyota recall - insufficient strength of the resin channel

Got a surprise when I got home this evening to see a recall notice for my 2014 Auris. Letter says certain Auris, Corolla and Avensis models may be affected.

"In the fuel evaporative emission control unit of the subject vehicles, due to insufficient strength of the resin channel for the emission gas flow, there is a possibility that a crack could develop by stresses such as fuel swelling stress of resin. In this condition, the crack could expand over time, and eventually fuel may leak from the check causing fuel odour to be emitted."

Am I right in thinking this is something I don't need to worry about? I've booked it in to be checked but not until the end of the month when I'm off work.

They don't post letters to the owners of 7 year old models because they aren't worried about you. They must be nervous enough of these.

On the flip side, the car has been ok for 7 years, what's another 3 weeks? I wouldn't worry personally but I would get it repaired.

As an aside, it never ceases to amaze me how every manufacturer seems to word their recall letters so unimaginably badly. I'd love to know why, it can't be coincidence.

Recall letters are accurate, no? If they asked you to drop their car in for recall they must have a good reason. And they must tell you why.

Dunno, i had to read that about 3 times to get the gist of that and i'd be used to reading them. There's definitely an easier way to word that for people who know **** all about cars.

Cars get recalls all the time irrespective of the age. My father had a 2009 Auris up to last year and got a few recall letters in recent times. If it's a safety concern or fear of litigation then they will issue a recall. It's also positive PR for the likes of Toyota as owners will think that sure they must really care about their customers even on an old car well out of warranty. That perception of lifetime care keeps them alot of returning customers.

The issue is that" fuel odour" means that the dangerous part of the fuel is leaking, the vapour of petrol burns not the fluid, so if you are getting a smell of fuel there's a risk of fire.
