I need to buy a graphics card so I can use hashcat on kali linux. However they seem pretty expensive. Ali Express is selling far cheaper ones which come from China. Has anyone ever tried these?

By far cheaper, do you mean one of the infamous fake flashed BIOS ones? Link to an example that we can see.

Here's a good example of buying GPUs from China (usually scams) :

Plenty of YT videos on how crappy they are......Linus and Ashens both did them.

It's caveat emptor, with the ban on cryptomining being introduced in China, there is likely a surplus of legit cards, but you are just as likely to get a GTX1030 that says its an RTX3090 in GPU-Z.

Actual legit graphics cards from China aren't much cheaper than they are here.

If you're seeing very low prices, they are 100% fake cards. Ebay and Aliexpress are flooded with them.

Don't waste your time. If they're legit, when you factor in customs and other charges, as well as the fact it's a nightmare if something goes wrong, you'll save pretty much nothing buying real cards from China, or generally, outside Europe.

Hashcat runs just as well under Windows. Easier to setup too with drivers and the Cuda SDK. What do you need to crack, would a second hand GPU do the job for you?

Based on your other posts my advice to you would be to exercise caution around this.
