Hi - hope some of you could advice.
I want to buy a second car under my name and I was told by my existing insurance that I can not insure second car as I have already one policy active - Is it not possible to have 2-3 cars under your own name insured... I though that if I apply for a anew policy as a new driver would work but seems NOT.

Would appreciate if anyone cud advice how to insure more then one car and if it is actually possible.

    Thanks in advance.

you can insure as many cars as you want, each needs its own policy in ireland, you have to build up NCB on each car and policy though

Who is your existing Insurance? Sounds like bad info based on your OP.

You can have multiple policies on different cars. Lots of folk have classic policies aside from an everyday policy for example.

But for a second everyday policy it can get expensive with a zero NCD as it's like starting from scratch on the second policy.

I am with FBD - they are not letting me insure second Car.
Called An Post - I have to have my first Car with them in order to consider, same as AXA.
123 might do it but I have to have a blackbox installed to monitor speed ..

Thought it would be a straight forward process.

You should be take out a second policy as said above, it'll just require you going in with zero NCB for the new one. Anyway, some companies will insure both - my brother just got a daft quote from Quote Devil for this. Chubb Insurance will insure multiple cars on one policy too - amount insured needs to be at least 40k.

    Just adding on to this…
My sister wanted to insure a second car, but came up against a bit of a brick wall. The reason was, her current car had only 1 year no claims, the insurance had paid out a settlement of a few grand (less than 10K) for a minor collision a few years ago.
As a result, the insurance company told her that the only way they would insure a 2nd car would be to attach a black box speed limiter to it and it would also be an expensive policy.
So it wasn’t a ‘no way’ - but it wasn’t far off.
I believe it was 123.ie she dealt with.

Isn't multicar cover available? I thought it was.

p.s. Some insurers will offer ncb mirroring. You'd need to be an attractive risk though.

From what I've seen, that generally covers multiple owners within one household - so myself and the wife can cover our own separate cars under one policy.

Not sure why theres such hassle getting one of these policies in place - you can only drive one at a time.

AXA were apparently the only ones offering NCB mirroring - and they might still be doing so- but brother rang them two weeks ago and they told him they no longer offer it.

I phoned 123 and that's exactly what they said - I would need to attach a black box - wouldn't be interested in that to be honest.

Got a quote from another insurance of 2K for third party including fire &Theft on a 2009 2.0L car. No NCB mirroring. They also mentioned that quote would go lower if a car is younger, size of a engine wouldn't impact so much.

This is a pain in the butt , im considered nearly middle aged now really and still encountering insurance issues like this , i have a van and a little used 420 Gc , insured through the insuremyvan ... insuremycars ... guys .
No problem with them generally but i wanted to pick up convertible also for the odd sunday spin , like a z4 or a boxster about 10grand worth .

figured there'd be no issue , but was told only option they had was the dual private client guys .... but i didnt qualify as one of the cars would have to be about 30k worth .
And as for getting a second policy for the z4 ... i was told sorry your insurer doesn't quote for that car ...

So , what do i do ... upgrade the bmw for something more expensive .... so i qualify for the dual option .
Look for other insurers ... i dont know , but by the time i have it figured the summer will be over . :v

crap country for car ownership , bet this would be a non issue in the states or Uk .

If your convertable is for the weekends... Is there one over 20 or 25 years old you'd fancy.

A couple of times in thale past I've had "classic" insurance.

Usually limited to those with a car already and limited to 5000km annually.
