Roof bar query, Skoda Octavia 2018

    Hi all,

First time poster, so apologies if I'm covering old ground here.

I've an expanding family and so am looking to make my car (Skoda Octavia 2018, no roof rails) capable of lugging more stuff when needed. Ideally a roof box and rails would be the job.

Given the model and the lack of raised rails, can anyone recommend an appropriate solution? Are they easily installed by someone who is reasonably handy but has no idea about car maintenance?!

    Thanks in advance.

Assume details are accurate, you have a plain roof fitting system on your car. Easy to install bars:

I use the Thule bars on a Seat Leon (Octavia's twin) and they are easy to fit. It takes about 5 minutes to put them on and off. Don't do what I did though. I did the typical male thing and half read the instructions the first time. I missed the part of winding back the locking tabs and wondered why they wouldn't fit......

If you open the doors and look at the top of the door jam, you'll probably see either marks, indentations or small plugs. The roof rack latches on these and clamps onto the roof at these points.

I often have a mountain bike on the roof and the Thule rack has no problems holding onto it when up to normal cruising speeds.

Price them from the main dealer also. You would be surprised at the value. I got mine from the main dealer and they were reasonably decent value.
