Virgin media Hub 2.0 port forwarding

hi all,

(my question in last paragraph)

Firstly i have been searching and i see the Virgin media forum is now closed so im unsure where to start with on this as the virgin media website is woefully lacking on information and support information.

i have a virgin media hub 2.0 it says as i lot in but it looks like the new 4.0 and have the V6 box.

but my issue is, i need to do some port forwarding and from what I've researched, i need to reset my box from a IPv6 to IPv4 as i cant port forward IPv4 ports only IPv6 but even at those it doesn't seem to be working.

id prefer not to have to go down the road of having to set up a PF-sense router and just using the Virgin media as a modem only. as i can us the AC Wifi 6 to connect to some of my devices.



So my question is how do i go about setting up IPv4 port forwarding on my virgin media hub 2.0 do i need to get in contact with virgin media directly since they no longer give support here ?

Yes, you'll need to contact VM to make this switch on their side, to move over to real IP v4, instead of DS-Lite.

Yes, it does. The option is under advanced, security, port forwarding.

So, I am currently on an IPv4 address with my old router in bridge mode. If I install this new black Hub 2 is it a given that when virgin provisions it, I will automatically be put on an IPv6 Ds-Lite address?

No. Once on IPv4, it'll stay that way. I was in the exact same scenario, on IPv4 with old router in bridge mode. Moved to the new Hub V2 and IPv4 stayed, and also using it in bridge mode.

That's great, I was thinking of giving the Hub 2 a go on its own (my needs are not high, basic, no streaming TV or anything like that.) and if not happy with it I would bridge.

Is there a guide to bridging the Hub 2 anywhere here? or, is it similar to the Cisco guide here?

Nowhere near the mess that the Cisco was. You login at the default 192.168.100.1, click on the bridge mode option and switch between bridge and router mode and reboot.

And what about the 3rd party router end, what needs to be done on that before/after you connect it to the bridged Hub 2? To you need to change LAN IP settings or anything?

Connect LAN port on router to any port on the modem, set it to use DHCP, that's it. Configure the rest entirely as you like.

The router will receive a full public IP and you're good to go.

I still use a Linksys WRT 1900AC, it's a bit old now though. But I use it with OpenWRT on it.

I think I'll go now and install the Hub 2 and see how it goes.

If I'm not happy and decide to bridge to a 3rd party router down the road would it be ok to give you a shout if I hit a brick wall setting that up for any reason?
