    Hi

I used to purchase hay for my bunny rabbit from a supplier in Scotland. Does anyone know if I can still purchase hay from the UK post-Brexit?

    Many thanks,

    Susan

You can of course but it may involve VAT depending on the over all cost. You could look at https://www.hayyourway.ie/, that’s where I get the hay for our guinea pigs, mind you I’ve only two so it’s fairly economical IMO.

    Not so fast...

    https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/826ab-import-of-animals-and-animal-products-hay-and-straw/

"Hay from grass, clover, vetches and lucerne (alfalfa) covered under CN code 1214 90 90 and straw covered under CN code 1213 00 00 must be presented for veterinary checks at the Border Control Post (BCP) at the first point of entry on to the territory of the EU with all the appropriate documentation, as set out under Article 1 of Regulation (EU) 2017/625."

The UK is not on the list of approved third countries, so it's probably not worth the seller's time to generate the required paperwork and vetinary inspection.

Thanks Jeremy, I remember reading something way back that it mightn't be possible but then got lost in the Covid threads trying to find clarification. My poor Boo, another victim of Brexit :-)

Luckily there's an Irish supplier recommendation above so I'll be buying Irish from now on

Thanks a mill for the recommendation!

Was coming here to recommend that site, their hay is a winner with my fussy rabbit. It's great quality.

I agree, it’s also pretty dust free, which is great for my OH, they’ll often throw in extras like the hazel twigs and foraging stuff.

I do like to support a particular independent pet shop so I try to get the Timothy hay sticks and other bits & bobs like the nuggets from them, it’s just the hay I use to get was causing my OH some issues.
