Quick temporary fix: paint or stain floorboards ?

    Hi All

I’ve just bought a house and ripped up the ugly old carpet from stairs, landing and master bedroom and box room.

I’m planning to get carpet in about 6 months time as part of a bigger redecoration after I have builders in.

But in the mean time I want to make it look ok for 6 months.
Any advice on a quick fix? I don't really want to pay for a professional for something temporary, and I also don’t want to sink a week of work in either.

I’ve looked up diy sanding, painting or staining and it sounds pretty involved- hiring a floor sander, an edger, making sure nails are flush, primer, 3 layers of paint, sealant on top etc etc

Any advice on steps I could skip to make this temp job easy as possible but look ok?

    Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

If its only for six months can you live with bare boards (maybe with a brushing of PVA to keep the dust down)? With some IKEA polyester rugs to take off the rustic look?
