I had gotten the same plumber to do numerous jobs around the house previously and I had always assumed he was registered but am only just seeing now that he is not..
I've already asked him to give me quote but don't know what to say to him now.
What is the advantage of going with RGI installer. Is it illegal for a non RGI installer to work on a gas boiler

Yeah its illegal . Problematic for both you and him to be honest. Go with an RGI is the only advice you can be offered here.

Play dumb about you knowing and when you get the quote ask him does that include the necessary sign off and certificates for the RGI certs ? Obviously you would be withholding payment in full until these are provided.
He could get an RGI to inspect and sign off his work but that would be less common unless you had an apprentice under an RGI or similar.

Its illegal to work on gas without being RGI.

If hes not an RGI i doubt he would have the correct equipment to do a proper boiler installation, example power flush, gas anlyser..

You wont get a warranty with the boiler if hes not an RGI.

No gas certificates can be issued.

It would be a terrible idea to use an non RGI for a boiler installation.

Hope that helps without coming across wrong.

Actually as an update, turns out that he is registered, I was spelling his name incorrectly on the the rgi website. Thanks all for replies and apologies for timewasting
