I need Help

Hi All,

Its been years and years since I did any kind of reasonable cycling. I want to get back into it to do a spin or two a week.

The roads around my house are all tar and chip and very hilly.

I went researching some bikes and my god what a rabbit hole!

My budget is around a grand.

Can ye learned people of Boards help point me in a right direction.

Frame size: my pants leg is 34inches and im 6foot 1 so hopefully that helps?

Also willing to consider decent second hand as I see some of ye trade some here also.

Ok thats pointed me in the right direction!

So that type of bike is ok for the stoney type roads around my house?!

assuming Cannondale is a reasonable make!

Also, say if I go to buy a bike from DoneDeal. Is there a way to ensure it hasnt been stolen. Id hate to be contributing to that even by accident.

Depends how stony. They're road bikes like.

To buy the today equivalent of any of them would be many multiples of those asking prices.

As for thievery, caveat emptor I guess. I love that green cannondale. (Cannondale world be justifiably insulted by your "reasonable make" faint praise )

Something to watch out for with those Cannondales is the sizing. 58cm Cannondale is a huge frame. They size big really
I'm 6 foot tall and ride a 54cm CAAD12.

Hiya, just a view - the biggest risk for you is that you get the wrong sized bike, imho. Lots of people buy a bike that is too big or too small and end up selling it.

I'm not sure that just sitting on a bike in a bike shop will tell you that. And with second hand bikes, you have to make a fairly quick decision, you dont have a shop mechanic who can measure the fit for you - so you will have to know that its right almost ahead of buying it.

If possible, I would look to borrow a bike for a few hours, if you know anyone who can lend one.

A road bike is a bit harder on the back than a hybrid, in my view, so they can take a bit of getting used to.

EDIT - re stolen bikes, ask for a receipt. Would also help you to know that you are not paying 1000 for a bike to someone who bought it for new for 800.
