ride on lawnmower deck?.

hey guys below is my ride on mower deck i took it off today as i need to replace the belt drive.

my question is what should i put on it to protect against any more rust,any ideas ?.

I use a product called owatrol oil. I find it very good.

Paint it with hammerite or similar product.

I wash down the deck at the end of the season and lash on a coat. Apparently, Owatrol is fantastic as a primer if you want to paint over rust. I just use it on the underside of the deck.

where do you buy Owatrol,would need a primer on my deck as theres lots of surface rust etc and then maybe hammerite ?.

Either Owatrol or Hammerite.

Easiest to use is Owatrol a lot of hardwares have it now as the reps have obviously been busy it also available online and many motor factors stock it.

Just get any flaky rust off then give it a coat of Owatrol then if you want for cosmetic reasons you can dilute it 50:50 with most oil based paints so you can give the deck a bit of colour. Owatrol is virtually transparent.

They are afaik incompatible. Different ways of working.

Hammerite is just a pain to put on where as Owatrol is a dream to work with. Mixed with oil based paint it goes on really easily.

Owatrol on the deck first,and then mix it 50:50 with black gloss would that be ok??.

Get a small can of black oil based paint. Mix that 25:75 with Owatrol and give it one coat. Then follow up with a second coat that is a 50:50 mix. If that doesn't have enough colour coverage then do a final coat as 75:25 mix. The Owatrol is in the third coat to improve the coverage as another use is as a paint additive to increase the flow of the paint. But if you like use Owatrol neat for the first coat. If you put in a small amount of black paint in the first coat then with the 50:50 mix should have enough colour coverage not to need a third coat.

That should just about do it but I'd get more and I always have paint left over . Plenty of info here https://www.owatrol.ie/product/owatrol-oil/ it doesn't totally agree with the what I said but does mostly I never bother with the primer but owatrol and aluminium primer is a great combo.

guys wheres the best place to get a deck pully wheel?

i have discovered theres a wobble in my deck pully when i spin the blade by hand theres a wobble/buckle in the pully that attaches to deck.

If you bring the pulley into a repair shop they may have it in stock or order it in for you.

You can order online but it can be a minefield getting right part.

I would first use a wire brush to remove any unsound paint and flaky rust, then use a rust remover/rust killer, such as HG Rust REmover, from Lehehans, following the instructions carefully.
I would then follow up with a good rust primer, such as Hammerite Special Metals Primer, and after that an oil-based finishing paint of your choice.

I have some that I bought as an additive for paint, to help it flow better in hot weather. It does so many things I'm beginning to think it's snake oil:)
