Would I be wasting my time going on a date with this man?

So I'm single now 8 years and don't want to online date. I've been asked by a friend would I like to go on a blind date with a 58 year old single man ( a relative of hers) whose 5 year relationship ended in March. I'm a bit unsure as, although he's never been married, he's had many relationships over the years, this latest one being his longest ever, and I'm wondering whether he's a commitment phobe or has other issues. From what I can gather, he's ended most of his relationships.

Should I take a chance or forget it!?

If you feel comfortable then go. It's one date. Maybe just coffee or coffee and a walk. If you feel nothing then no harm done.

    Good luck

He sounds better than a man with a string of divorces behind him don't you think?

I have an Uncle slightly older than that age, perfect gentleman and successful in his professional life, who for one reason or another just never got married.

It's only a date, you are overthinking it! Meet him, have a coffee and a chat. You have nothing to lose, see it as dating practice.
If you don't want to meet him again after that, you don't have to.

It's a date, not a marriage proposal. Also, you're 8 years single, he's probably not worrying too much about what that means, as these things usually means nothing. You're living your life and doing your best, just like him. Try not to judge or overthink, just go and see what happens. Worst case you can have a drink with a stranger for an hour and make your excuses.

The way I look at things now after lockdown is to say yes to new things, new places and people. Give him a chance. He could be great craic or a dud. Either way it's a few hours of your life. And after the restrictions of the last year and more, it's nice to meet new people! Go for it!

The way things are going I'll be that guy one day! Just because someone is single doesn't mean something is wrong with them, I mean you're in the same boat too. You really shouldn't judge someone before you've met them, he hasn't done anything wrong.

But sure you're single 8 years and if you are divorced couldn't he easily look at you and say she couldn't keep a husband and is single 8 years must be something wrong, I'm sure you wouldn't be liked to be unfairly judged either

You have nothing to lose by going on a date. It literally one date. It’s very easy to be dismissive of someone on paper, but until you meet a person and get to know them you won’t know if there is a reason they are single.
I know people of that age group that are single some of them you can tell why but others definitely have a lot to offer a potential partner.

Its ONE date ...take a risk! Maybe you won't date him but you might make a friend :)

Go on, take a chance. Ask your friend any question you need to ask. Then talk to the man, take things slow, ask about everything you need to know, and see how things are going.

Life is short!! Take a chance! Good luck!
