White countertops - nay or yay?

I'm thinking of revamping our whole house sometime in the future but I need some plans first. I'm done with the rest of the first floor except for the kitchen. We have a butcher's block right now and it's starting to get dull after 10 years of use. The usual maintenance doesn't help anymore. I was surfing the net for some countertops and found this post about white countertops. I'm fine with a stone slab, I rather prefer it but white? Isn't too bright for the kitchen? Also, what about stains and other marks? To see that post I was talking about, click here to check it out.

I have white quartz counter tops and they look lovely, however they are a complete bastard to keep them, any mark at all will be seen on them, then its a cif job to get it off. i would not recommend these unless there is a fairly strong pattern to ensure you wont see any little thing on them

We have Silestone calcatta gold quartz worktops which are predominantly white with a a good pattern in grey. Not cheap, but I think the quality is good and the workmanship and attention to detail was excellent. https://www.silestone.com/gr/colour/et-calacatta-gold/

In terms of maintenance, don't use harsh cleaning materials. We just clean ours with a hot wet cloth and dry tea towel = no streaks.

Be extremely careful with strong flavours / colours as they will stain. A few close escapes with tea, ribena and a frozen ice pop left melting. WE love the look if it and really it's not hard to maintain.
